Film Censorship Institution (LSF) decided the film Balibo Five is not passed the censorship and banning the film in Indonesia is only an hour before the showing at the Jakarta International Film Festival (JIFFest). Film Censorship Institution does not give reasons for banning the film Balibo Five had more detail but from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the controversial film Balibo Five did not play for fear that will open a new conflict between Indonesia and Australia.
Balibo Five film by director Robert Connolly told him about the murder of five Australian journalists in Balibo, East Timor (now Timor Leste) in 1975. The film was released in Australia this year just a week before the Australian Police (AFP) announced it would reopen the investigation of Balibo.
According to the Australian version, the five journalists of their countries of origin is the Gary Cunningham, Malcolm Rennie, Greg Shackleton, Tony Stewart and Brian Peters, allegedly executed military special forces in October 1975. The five were killed while covering the military entry into East Timor. But the Indonesian government said all five died trapped in the battle.
